HIM. A Book Review

First of all, thank you Carey Heywood for allowing me to have an ARC of HIM. Yesss. Thank you so so much, dude, from the bottom-est of my heart.

Second of all, i received this e-ARC at aroung 5-ish AM here in the Philippines. I started reading my ARC at 7AM up to 2:30PM, just imagine. i skipped my breakfast and my lunch. haaaa! it's worth it though.

Okay. Let me tell you how I happen to fall in love with HIM. As I was scrolling my Facebook news feed,  I saw a post of a “Cover Reveal” from a fan page that talks about HIM. And there, I was stunned with the beautiful cover, and the beautiful man in it. It must be “HIM” that they’re talking about. I read the blurb and there, I just fell in love with the synopsis of the story. Then I get to use my “thick-faced ability” and I sent a message to Carey asking for and ARC because I’ll be damned if I’ll wait for the release date to read this. Yesss. Sorry for the words. Hehe! Anyways…

Sarah Miller hasn’t been home in seven years. She thought she could stay away forever. If it wasn’t for her big brother's wedding, that is. Part of her even feels silly for staying away this long. It's not like anyone even knew what happened. Well, except for him. That guy. The one she compared all others to. The one who set the bar so high no other guy after him could even compete. The one who made her feel like anything was possible. The one she thought she would never be good enough for. The one she spent the last seven years trying to forget. All she needs to do is make it through the next week without running into him.

As I was reading the first chapter, I was wondering how the story will go on.

Sarah being away from her family and friends for seven fcking years ain’t a joke. Yes, she hasn’t been in home for those long, long years. But why? Well because there’s this one thing or should I say one person in her past that makes her really afraid to go back home. She has been staying away from this person for as long as she can endure. That’s how tough Sarah Miller has become. She even sacrificed seeing her family because of this one person. HIM. Then an event that calls her for her presence that she can’t even refuse. Yes, that’s how important the event is. And I will leave you with that. You find out what happens next.

We all do have some trust issues. I know we all do. Sarah Miller was once broken hearted and to cope up from being in that state, she ran away. Maybe she has her own reasons why she did that and lasted for about 7 years. I admire how her character for the fact that she became independent and a successful career woman. She knows well her priorities that even she denies her best friend, Sawyer, from always pushing her to take a break from being a workaholic and have some time to herself especially on her love life. But how can she even “date” when there’s only one thing in her heart. HIM. Ever since, it has always been HIM.

In Sarah’s case, first love indeed never dies because no matter how hard she try to do her best to forget everything about HIM, she can’t. I knew that this is somewhat called “unfinished business” between the two of them.

I like how the how the story progress. I get the details I wanted, from how the very beginning of everything up to the present time of the story. I really can’t put it down because almost every chapter ends in a cliffhanger and it is a huge torture for me to pause for a long time when a chapter ends like that. I.SERIOUSLY.CANNOT.PUT.IT.DOWN.

I didn't get bored reading this novel. Maybe it’s all because I FEEL EACH CHARACTER.
I really am clueless of who is “HIM” until I was on the flashback part of the story. I somewhat got an idea who is HIM and it was confirmed when I got into that part. And I kinda knew it what will happen next. The only thing that keeps on dragging me to finish the story is the REASON BEHIND THE RUNAWAY OF SARAH. I keep on asking to myself “WHAT THE HELL IS HER REASON WHY SHE WOULD RUNAWAY AND NEVER COMES BACK FOR SEVEN YEARS?

And most especially, I liked how the story ends. Sarah’s long time issues have been resolved and I liked how she got her HEA or happy ever after. She deserves all those answers and clarifications that made her do those things in the past. She had her reasons for doing such thing and now she got the answers for her reasons.

She deserves her HEA.

I love the secondary characters. Especially Brian and Sawyer. Brian, being a responsible older brother to Sarah. He’s always been there to Sarah to support her and give guidance to her way back especially when it comes to Sarah having her very first relationship with his boyfriend. He is a good brother everyone wished for.

I admire Sawyer because she’s a strong woman who has been there for Sarah especially when the moment she ran away. Sarah found her sanctuary in Sawyer. She’s the best friend everyone would want for. Despite all the trials and problems each of them are facing, they are always and always will there for each other. And yesssssss, SAWYER DESERVES HER STORY, DUDE!
